Welcome to the Environmental Health Department site. Our aim within this Department of Ballymena Borough Council is to protect and promote the health, safety and well-being of everyone within the Borough. Not only those people who live in the borough area but also those who come into the Borough each day to work or visit. The Council has assigned a high priority to these responsibilities and has developed a wide range of services aimed at promoting a safe and healthy environment.
The Department is committed to delivering quality services with economy and efficiency, to the optimum beneficial effect for all. We are also committed to providing as much information as possible about our services to the public.
The remit of the Environmental Health Department encompasses the following core functions,

The range of services provided is diverse but throughout it runs a common thread, i.e. the protection of public safety and health. This is achieved through action to improve the physical environment and its management, as well as the safety of food and consumer goods. In practical terms this involves routine monitoring, advising, encouraging, educating and when necessary and appropriate the use of wide ranging legal powers.
