A SHARED SPACE – A NEIGHBOURLY PLACE
Council’s new Good Relations Strategy 2010-2012
Promoting Good Relations continues to be a subject high on the agenda at Ballymena Borough Council as we introduce our new Good Relations Strategy for 2010-2012. (Click link below)
Create a Climate for Change and Promote Provision of Shared Space are the two major themes of this new Strategy, which was launched in April 2010 at Council’s Community & Voluntary Dinner by Baroness May Blood MBE, the first Northern Ireland women to be awarded a life peerage.
Baroness Blood congratulated Council, saying “Ballymena has got it right”. She further commented, “There is no greater satisfaction than giving a voice to the voiceless. I know the Strategy is called ‘Good Relations’, but I would stand that on its head and pose the question – what makes relations good? Putting in place projects and systems that answer that question is the key to success”.
We recognise our role to provide strong civic leadership within the borough as we strive to make Ballymena “A Great Place to Be”. This new Strategy not only complements and continues the Good Relations work that has been achieved to date, but allows Council to move forward in an inclusive and progressive manner. Through the two themes Create A Climate for Change and Promote Provision of Shared Space, Council pledge their continued commitment and support to projects and initiatives aimed at creating Good Relations for all our citizens.
We will strive to embed Good Relations in all aspects of Council business, and will work closely with other agencies and our communities to help make Ballymena a safer and more welcoming place for all.
