A traditional place of pilgrimage, this majestic mountain dominates the landscape in the Borough of Ballymena. Slemish is said to be where the boy slave Saint Patrick tended herds for his master Miluic in the 5th century, and ever since has been a place of pilgrimage on St Patrick’s Day, 17th March. Excellent views can be had of the Antrim and Scottish coasts to the east. Ballymena town, Lough Neagh and the Sperrin Mountains are all normally visible to the west whilst the Bann Valley and the higher summits of the Antrim Hills can be seen to the north. Facilities include a picnic area, public toilets and a car park. An information leaflet is available from Ballymena Tourist Information Centre.
