Ballymena Town Centre is a vibrant commercial hub and has a luxurious mix of both strong independent retailers as well as the major national high street chains. It also boasts two shopping centres right in the heart of the town, with the Tower centre and Fairhill centre hosting over 100 shops between them. Much of the town is open late Thursday and Friday. (See individual shopping centre links for additional times)

There are in excess of 5000 parking spaces available, both in multi story, and flat level format. Parking is very competitively priced, with multi story charges at around £3/day (compared to Belfast at around £17/day). Free on-street limited timed parking is also available and is clearly sign posted throughout the town.
Ballymena has also an extensive display at Christmas of breathtaking festive lighting, to the extent that the BBC called the town, Christmas capital of the UK! Ballymena is a focus for many people throughout the province to do their shopping all year round, and especially for that special occasion of Christmas shopping. This magical atmosphere is available from early November.

The unique characteristic of the town, owes much to its quality independents. Ballymena is currently the only town in Northern Ireland to have formed a voluntary Business Improvement District (BID) via the operation of an active and successful Town Centre Partnership. This is a strong partnership between the local authority, and the private sector, which then raise membership funds to be spent on projects to specifically improve the offer of Ballymena Town Centre. This covers a whole range of activity like Christmas lighting, to a co-ordinated marketing campaign.
